Overcoming Sin

In this message continuing a series on “chilling with God,” Pastor Al teaches that believers can relax in God’s unconditional love because they are righteous through Jesus’ obedience, not their own.

He explains that the “flesh” is an ungodly way of thinking in the soul, while the believer’s spirit is made new at salvation, and he frames “sin” as a noun—an invading, person-like “parasite” and Satan’s “asset” that plants tempting thoughts.

Using examples like porn, bitterness, resentment, and distrust in marriage, he shares that believers are not the source of sinful thoughts and should stop identifying themselves as dirty or condemned.

The solution is renewing the mind, taking thoughts captive (2 Cor. 10:5), resisting lies regardless of volume or frequency, and answering temptation with Scripture, remembering believers are God’s workmanship and as Christ is, so are they in this world.
